JEREMY RUSHBROOK

MB ChB (Hons), MSc (Eng), FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Consultant Knee Surgeon

After graduating from the University of Leeds, I completed all of my basic surgical and higher orthopaedic training in the Yorkshire region, before being appointed to a substantive consultant post at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in 2014.  I have also spent a year on one of the world's most prestigious knee Fellowships with Dr Peter Myers in Australia.

I specialise entirely in the treatment of knee conditions and am able to offer a wide variety of treatments including arthroscopic techniques and ligament reconstruction, joint saving surgery, and partial and total knee replacement.

I believe strongly in maximising the use of non-surgical treatments prior to considering surgery.  I also utilise tried and tested techniques rather than new fads, but do like to introduce new methods when there is good reason or evidence to do so.  An example would be the use of robotics in knee surgery, which I established as first in the NHS in 2018.

After Portsmouth Hospitals was selected with Oxford as the Major Revision Centres for Knee Surgery in South East England, I was tasked with developing this service for the benefit of patients requiring complex revision surgery in our region.

I lead the orthopaedic research department at the Queen Alexandra Hospital and the collaboration with the University of Portsmouth.   We run a variety of projects including stem cell treatments and the use of technology and artificial intelligence in health care.

When not working I enjoy spending time with my family and young children, trying keep fit with some running, cycling and the occasional Ironman, and sailing if there's ever a chance.
